現在の研究関心は、日本語と外国語の間での世界史理解の相違の解明とそれを踏まえた新しい世界史の構築である。パリ第３大学でPhD学位取得（1983年）。1996年、2002年にケンブリッジ大学客員研究員、2000年フランスCNRS客員研究員。編著書『Asian Port Cities, 1600-1800』がアジア・太平洋出版協会賞（2010年）を、また『イスラーム世界の創造』はアジア太平洋賞特別賞（2006年）第4回ファーラービー国際賞(2010年)をそれぞれ受賞。

HANEDA Masashi is professor in historical studies. He is a graduate of Kyoto University and obtained his doctorat de 3e cycle en etudes iraniennes at the University of Paris III in 1983. Currently, he pays attention to the perceptual difference of the world/global history between Japanese and foreign languages and tries to find a new way of describing the history of the world both in Japanese and in English. In1996 and 2002, he was visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge and in 2000 at CNRS of France. Among his numerous publications, Asian Port Cities, 1600-1800 received The Association of Asia Pacific Publishers Prize (2010) and Creating the Notion of Islamic World (in Japanese), Special Prize of Asia-Pacific Award (2006) and the 4th Farabi International Award in Iran (2010).
