OZAWA Ichiro, Collaborative Fellow, Institute of Asian Cultures (Sophia University), has carried out researches concerning military history of West Asia, especially Iran. In his doctoral dissertation, he studied the relation between the evolution of firearms technologies in Western Europe and North America and the historical developments of Iran from the beginning of the 19th century until the Iranian Constitutional Revolution (1905-1911), to receive his PhD from Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology, University of Tokyo, in March 2016. Recently he is interested in such topics as the traditional nature and characteristics of armed forces of Iran and their change/continuity in “modern” era, and problems inherent in Westerners’ views on Iran’s military matters, i.e. “military orientalism”.
