物資文化と画像を中心として、近世日本の交流・貿易について博士論文の研究を行っています。モノに見える阿蘭陀・紅毛・出島などの描写を以て、日本と触れ合ったオランダ東インド会社（VOC） の特性を見直そうとします。２０１０年ジョージタウン大学言語学部卒、２０１３年ハーバード大学東アジア研究学科修士号取得。現在プリンストン大学東アジア研究学科博士後期課程、２０１６−７年東京大学東洋文化研究所訪問研究員。

Claire Cooper specializes in early modern Japanese history and its intersections with the global economy. Her research focuses on the material and visual aspects of commerce between Japan and the Dutch East India Company (VOC), specifically how early modern Japanese people created, consumed, and understood objects and images related to Dejima, its inhabitants, and what they brought with them to trade. Claire is currently a doctoral candidate at Princeton University and a visiting researcher at Tokyo University’s Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia. She received her B.A. from the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at Georgetown University in 2010, and completed an A.M. in Regional Studies East Asia at Harvard University in 2013.
