エスノグラフィックな手法を用いた生活空間の分析を通じて、近代性と女性について調査・研究を行っている。博士論文では、戦前東京における女性の戦術的な非家内空間（学校、職場、飲食店、娯楽空間、路上、駅、電車の車内など）利用行動に着目している。2008年、東京大学工学部都市工学科都市計画コース卒、2009年、英国ユニバーシティ・カレッジ・ロンドンにて建築学修士号（都市デザイン）取得。2012-14年、フルブライト・スカラーとして米国ウィスコンシン大学ミルウォーキー校に学ぶ。2017年現在、同校博士候補生（建築学）。2015-17年、アメリカ民俗学会トランスナショナルアジア／太平洋地域部門ジュニア委員長。

Yuko Nakamura studies modernity and women through explorations of everyday spaces using ethnographic methods. Her current dissertation project examines women's tactical uses of non-domestic spaces in Tokyo, Japan, between 1868 and 1937. She looks into spaces like schools, workplaces, eating and drinking establishments, shopping and entertainment venues, as well as streets, train cars, and stations.

Yuko is a Ph.D. candidate in architecture with a concentration in Buildings-Landscapes-Cultures at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She received her B.Eng. from the Urban Planning program at the University of Tokyo in 2008, and completed an M.Arch. in Urban Design at University College London in 2009. She is the junior convener of Transnational Asia/Pacific Section of American Folklore Society. For the 2012-14 academic years, she served as a Fulbright scholar from Japan.
