研究テーマは、建築史、美術史、地域学、社会学など学際的なアプローチによる、東アジアの植民地都市空間の再考。 博士論文では、建築文化史と美術史の視角から、20世紀前半における旧満洲の都市空間と民間建築を取り上げ、多民族の流動的で多層的な都市空間および満洲と日本のモダン建築の関連性に着目し、モダニズムとコロニアリズムの錯綜を解明した。 博士（コロンビア大学美術史学科, 2018年）。東京大学大学院工学部建築学科伊藤研究室特別研究生（2015-17年）、京都工芸繊維大学訪問研究員（2013-15年）、北京大学芸術学部卒業（2006年）。

Yu Yang’s research explores the complex layers of colonial spaces in East Asia during the early twentieth century from the intersection of art, architecture, social, and cultural histories. Her Ph.D. dissertation examines the urban planning and architecture in colonial Manchuria from the perspective of global history, focusing on the spatial configurations of interactions among multiple ethnic, political, and economic groups.

Yang received degrees from Peking University (B.A. Film Studies, 2006), University of Pittsburgh (M.A. Art History, 2008), and Columbia University (Ph.D. Art History, 2018). She has studied and worked at the Kyoto Institute of Technology, the University of Tokyo, and Peking University, and her research has received supports of Japan Foundation, Atsumi International Foundation, and C.V Starr Scholarship.
