報告題目：　“Na carta viva”. European views of Japan in the 16th century

概要：　The first Japanese “embassy” spent a few years in Europe between 1584 and 1585 and visited the Iberian as well as the Italian peninsulas, offering thus to many cities of southern Europe to “meet” with people coming from this part of the world. The aim of my talk will be twofold: on one side, it will analyze the different sources which recorded this event, in order to investigate the kind of knowledge such an event could produce; on the other side, it will trace the global connections that developed during this voyage. As a result, it will offer some views about how the Japanese “embassy” affected the current grammar of the world available at this time, in Europe.
