インド洋海域史、特に中世アラビア語地理書と19世紀の奴隷交易について取り組んできた。これに加えて、世界史的共通体験としての奴隷制廃止の問題にも取り組んでいる。2010年、東京大学で博士号取得。財団法人東洋文庫にて日本学術振興会特別研究員PD、マギル大学インド洋世界センターにて日本学術振興会海外特別研究員、長崎大学多文化社会学部准教授を歴任し、2018年8月より現職。

SUZUKI Hideaki specializes Indian Ocean World history, particularly medieval Arab geography and slave trade in the 19th century. Adding to it, he started recently a new project on abolition as a globally shared experience. He obtained doctoral degree from the University of Tokyo in 2010, and stayed at Indian Ocean World Centre, McGill University as visiting scholar as well as JSPS Postdoctoral fellow for Research Abroad. After his teaching at Nagasaki University, currently he is at National Museum of Ethnography.
