Lillian Tsay gained her bachelor’s degree in English literature and sociology in National Taiwan University, afterwards she came to the University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies. For her master’s thesis, she analyzed the print travel media (mainly guidebooks and travel magazines) from postwar to contemporary Japan to discuss the construction of the tourist gaze toward Taiwanese gourmets. For her future studies, she’s interested in the sugar industry as well as the consumption of sweets in early 20th century Japan with the discussion of advertisement, gender, and urban experiences.
