Birgit TREMML-WERNER

2007年ウィーン大学文学部卒業(歴史・日本学)、同大学の経済史学部にて博士学位取得(2012年)。グローバル・ヒストリーについての様々な授業を 担当した。2013年より東京大学東洋文化研究所にて日本学術振興会外国人特別研究員(研究テーマ:東、東南アジア港町の異文化交流と「外交」活動 )。専門は大航海時代の中の前近代の外交・異文化交流だが、それから港町の研究にも関心がある。

Birgit Tremml-Werner graduated from the University of Vienna (Major: History, Minor: Japanese Studies) in 2007 and received her PhD from the same university in 2012 (Title of her dissertation: When Political Economies Meet: Spain, China and Japan in Manila, 1571-1644). There she also taught various courses on global history. As Postdoctoral Research Fellow of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) at the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia (The University of Tokyo) she works on a project entitled “Intercultural Communication and Foreign Relations in East and Southeast Asian Port Cities”. Her research interests include colonial history, early modern intercultural diplomacy, as well as port cities.

She is interested in the way people negotiated, in cultures of communication and the impact of symbolic traditions on politi cal and economic exchange.
