2016年4月より、経済学研究科マネジメント専攻講師。研究分野はイングランド経済史・経営史(1550-1750)。主要な研究テーマは、1)「プロジェクト」と呼ばれた国内経済の改良計画と、2)1720年の南海泡沫事件。これらの主要テーマと関連する、3)産業革命以前の企業の社会的責任と4)ステレオタイプが経済の行動主体に与えた影響についても研究をすすめている。研究にあたっては、論文を国際学術誌に発表すること、近世イングランドが研究対象であっても、今日の我が国において興味深く感じられるテーマを追究することを心がけている。東京においては、日英バイリンガルのセミナー、Political Economy Tokyo Seminar (PoETS)と、英語圏での成果発表に必要なスキルを磨くための「歴史家ワークショップ」を企画・共催している。また、研究の成果を知的好奇心のある多くの人に伝えることで、人文社会科学、特に歴史的思考の今日的意義を提示するよう心がけている。これまでは、TEDxのレクチャー(2011)や、バッグ製造メーカーにおいてセミナー(2014)などを行なった。GHCでは、よりグローバルで比較史的な視点を身につけることを目標としている。

Koji YAMAMOTO is an assistant professor in business history at the Faculty of Economics, University of Tokyo. Previously he has held postdoctoral positions at King's College London, Edinburgh, St Andrews and Cambridge, and was a recipient of a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship between 2012 and 2014. His first monograph, provisionally entitled "Taming Capitalism before its Triumph: Projecting, Public Service and Distrust in Early Modern England" will be published by the Oxford University Press. He has been working on another book project on the South Sea Bubble of 1720. His other projects include an edited volume on the comparative analysis of stereotypes across politics, religion, economy and science in early modern England; and a journal special issue on morality and the market in Europe before the Industrial Revolution. At GHC, he hopes to expand his intellectual horizon and develop a more globally comparative perspective.
