Born and raised in Qufu, eastern China. I received my M.A. in world history from the History Department of Fudan University in 2005. Later I studied Japanese history at the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology at the University of Tokyo, where I completed my doctoral dissertation on Sino-Japanese relations during the early modern period. I received my Ph.D. from this institution in 2012. Subsequently I continued to research early modern Japanese history. For two years after receiving my Ph.D., I held a postdoctoral research fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and am currently a Project Researcher at the Historiographical Institute of the University of Tokyo. I am interested in the maritime history of East Asia, focusing especially on the interconnections between the Nagasaki-based China trade, local society, and the overall economic structures of early modern Japan and China.
