近世イギリス史（海軍史、海事史、政治史）、植民地時代アメリカ史が専門。近世の北米・カリブ海域の海賊・私掠研究から出発。その後、イギリス海軍史や政治史にも研究対象を広げる。英米をまたぐ大西洋史的なアプローチをとりつつ、近世ヨーロッパの、海洋における暴力、経済、国家の相互関係の解明を目指している。イギリスのエクセター大学で博士号を取得（2010年）。主要な著書は、Britain and Colonial Maritime War in the Early Eighteenth Century: Silver, Seapower and the Atlantic (Boydell & Brewer, 2013)。
Shinsuke Satsuma is Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Integrated Arts and Sciences, Hiroshima University. He researches 18th century British naval, maritime, and political history in an Atlantic framework. He obtained his Ph.D. in History at the University of Exeter in 2010, and has published a monograph, Britain and Colonial Maritime War in the Early Eighteenth Century: Silver, Seapower and the Atlantic (Boydell & Brewer, 2013), as well as several journal articles and book chapters.
