建築史家、建築家（一級建築士）。19世紀から20世紀にかけての建築論壇史研究を主に、世界史研究の方法論を模索している。現在の研究テーマは歴史様式概念の受容史。同研究を通じて、近代建築思想の形成にかかわる情報ネットワークの実態や、近代における建築観の変容を世界規模でとらえたい。またライフワークとして、歴史的に重要な建築論の翻訳にも取り組んでいる。

EMOTO Hiroshi is working on the methodology of global history, digging into the literary networks of 19th-20th century architects and architectural writers all over the world. The current topic is the reception history of historical styles. He is also working on the translation of the work of John Ruskin, as well as of other witnesses of the formation of modern architectural thoughts, including works of le Corbusier, Hermann Muthesius, Henry van de Velde, and Sigurd Frosterus, etc.
