建築史家、建築家（一級建築士）。現在の研究テーマは、 ヴィクトリア朝イギリスの美術批評家ジョン・ラスキンの建築論壇における世界受容（19世紀中葉-20世紀中葉）。同研究を通じて、近代建築思想の形成にかかわる情報ネットワークの実態や、近代における建築観の変容を世界規模でとらえた い。 また博士論文研究の傍ら、ラスキン書目ほかの建築理論書の翻訳にも取り組んでいる。都市史研究室（伊藤毅教授）所属、研究室活動としてイタリア・ヴェネト 地方を対象とした都市史研究の文献・実測調査にあたる。

EMOTO Hiroshi is working on the history of the worldwide reception of John Ruskin, an English art critic of the Victorian era, in the architectural sphere from mid-19th toward mid-20th century. His current subject of interest is the methodology to construct a comprehensive global history of modern architectural thoughts. He is also working on the translation of the work of Ruskin, as well as of other witnesses of the formation of modern architectural thoughts, including works of le Corbusier, Hermann Muthesius, Henry van de Velde, and Sigurd Frosterus.
