Qinyuan Lei is currently working on various theories of science and technology, particularly on their relations with socio-political struggle, as well as different Materialisms' position vis-à-vis the question of science. Her dissertation is on the debates of science and technology among thinkers who belonged to different schools or political camps in interwar and wartime Japan, including Tosaka Jun, Nishida Kitarō, Kurahara Korehito, Miyamoto Takenosuke, and Aikawa Haruki.
